Bacteria

Collection de l’Institut Pasteur (CIP)

The CIP is one of the oldest microbial biobanks worldwide. It contains more than 25000 bacterial strains belonging to 5500 different species. Collaborations with scientists from the Institut Pasteur and deposits of strains by French and international scientists contribute to the continuing growth of the collection.

The CIP ensures the distribution of bacterial strains and associated data (data on properties, preservation conditions, identification).

Order bacterial strains

The distribution of bacterial strains is intended for public or private research institutions and educational institutions that are equiped with laboratory facilities adapted to the handling of the requested strains.

The strains are distributed for scientific use under General Terms and Conditions of Use, in compliance with our internal Charter and with national and international standards and regulations.

Price list for bacterial strains

How to place an order for bacterial strains at CIP?

The CIP will reply to your request for CIP strains upon receipt of the list of requested strains and the completed “Customer account form". (links below). With this information, the CIP will prepare an MTA, alias CGU “General Terms and Conditions of Use”. The CGU, with the prices for the strains including shipment fees indicated in Euro, will be sent to you to be signed by the responsible scientist and the institution in which she/he works. The order will be processed only if the CGU is properly signed.

In addition, we will also need a corresponding formal Purchase Order from your institution; please ask for it from your administrative department. Specifically for GMOs, a declaration of regulatory compliance must also be signed (french version available here).

CIP collections

The strains are preserved by lyophilization or freezing at -80 ° C or at -196 ° C in liquid nitrogen.

As much as possible, we apply two different methods of preservation to each strain and we store samples of each strain in two different places.

  • Bordetella collection
  • Foodborne pathogens of the CARE collection
  • Klebsiella collection
  • Listeria collection
  • Anaerobe collection
  • Entomopathogenic strain collection
  • Extremophile collection

Clinical isolates of Bordetella strains, mostly Bordetella pertussis. This is the agent of whooping cough, an endemic respiratory disease, with outbreaks every few years.

Deposit in our biobank

The deposit of bacterial strains is free of charge and is accompanied by a Deposit Form for Microorganisms, completed with the information required for the implementation of the Nagoya Protocol, the culture conditions, the composition of the culture medium if necessary, the properties of the strain and bibliography.

The CIP must approve the deposit before shipment of the bacterial strain. The CIP reserves the right to refuse a deposit.
