Our commitment to the scientific community involves providing fit-for-purpose biological products, validated processes, and associated services. These resources are used in research and quality control and enable developments in fundamental science, drug discovery, diagnostics, translational medicine, and public health.
Processing and characterization of microbial and human specimens. The CRBIP offers a unique combination of expertise and services encompassing both microbial and human biospecimens. Microbial strains may be derivatives of human specimens or ad hoc deposits.

Whole genome sequencing, either short read, or long read for taxonomic identification. We extract DNA from isolated strains and subcontract Illumina paired end sequencing either to internal sequencing platforms or to external ISO17025 accredited sequencing laboratories. Long read sequencing is performed in our laboratories.

Targeted sequencing for taxonomic identification, in a polyphasic approach, combining morphological features and molecular data. Target sequences are in the ITS1, ITS2, 26/28S rDNA, EF-1a or b-tubulin genes.

Biospecimen research is the study of the impact of preanalytical variables on specific analytical endpoints. This includes research on the robustness of our processing methods as well as real time stability studies and equivalency studies.

Optimization and validation of processing methods following ISO21899:2020. This includes validation of the reproducibility and robustness of the method, validation of the fitness-for-purpose, and validation of the homogeneity and stability of the output material, as necessary.

We can produce customized QC materials (e.g. individual viable or inactivated strains, DNA, mock communities) upon request. Please write to crbip-pmo@pasteur.fr

The expertise group GIPhy (Genome Informatics and Phylogenetics) implements and provides various bioinformatics methods and analytical workflows for the characterization and comparison of genomes, as well as for the taxonomic description of new species or genera.
GIPhy
Genomic-based strain taxonomy and nomenclature platform. We deposit, genotype and analyse CIP and PCC genomes. We also establish new databases resulting from scientific collaborations.
BIGSdbWe supply diverse, well-characterized and quality-controlled biological material with associated contextual, preanalytical, phenotypic and genotypic data.
We integrate, process, characterize, preserve and distribute biological resources in compliance with health and environmental biosafety and biosecurity standards and under applicable laws and regulations.
Feel free to browse our catalogues and contact us if you have any requests for biological samples.

We offer wet and dry lab services for different types of biological resources.
(i) acquisition of deposits of microbiological materials, including new species, (ii) strain culture and isolation in pure format, (iii) strain lyophilization, (iv) reception and processing of human fluid biological materials, (v) genotypic, phenotypic and functional characterization of the biological materials, (vi) preservation and distribution of microbial and human bioresources.
Our strategy is geared towards quality and the fitness for purpose of the biological resources. Hence, our scientific focus is on biospecimen and genomic taxonomy research.
By providing access to fit for purpose bioresources, we contribute to the advancement of biological sciences through innovative and interdisciplinary research projects, development of cutting-edge tools, and international partnerships.
